From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):
Do you think hunters should be able to shoot hibernating mother bears with cubs on national preserves? Or wolf pups in their dens? If not, please sign at https://act.alaskawild.org/sign/stopcubkilling/.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke recently launched a comment period to take our national preserves in Alaska down this bloody path. Will you oppose the plan by submitting a comment?
Let Zinke know that trophy hunters shouldn’t be the primary voice dictating how we manage our wildlife. Far more visitors to Alaska’s national parks enjoy hiking, photography and viewing wildlife…and these unethical practices threaten those uses.
Three years ago, the National Park Service successfully banned these extreme hunting methods in Alaska’s national preserves after substantial review. Now, in a complete reversal, Secretary Zinke is undermining the ability of preserve managers to appropriately preserve the wildlife they manage.
The reality is that the Trump administration cares about state’s rights when they align with his own interests, and fights them when they don’t. There’s no reason why the federal government cannot work with the state of Alaska to address its concerns in an ethical way that better protects our wildlife and accommodates a variety of Alaska national preserve visitors.
P.S. This will be a tough fight to win, but regardless of the outcome, it’s important to leave a comment to show how Sec. Zinke’s actions defy the will of most Americans. Please sign today.
