From CLASP (http://www.clasp.org/):
The Administration announced a damaging new proposal Saturday night that would hurt immigrants and their families. We wanted to let you know about this proposal and encourage you to join us in pushing back.
Under the proposed changes to the “public charge” rule, immigrants would be forced to make impossible choices between the wellbeing of their families and their own legal status. It would penalize immigrant families who seek assistance meeting their basic nutrition, health care, and housing needs.
CLASP is co-leading a campaign of 200+ organizations aimed at defeating it, but we need your help. There is much we can do together to slow down or stop this egregious proposal.
We need your help—right now—in spreading the word.
To learn more about the proposed rule and CLASP’s take on it, here’s more information, which we hope you’ll share with your networks:
- our statement,
- an article in USA Today quoting Olivia Golden on how it would lead to immigrants being “hungrier, sicker and poorer,” and
- more information about the Protecting Immigrant Families Campaign that CLASP is co-leading with the National Immigration Law Center.
Once the rule is officially published—which could happen any day—we have 60 days to post comments before it can be finalized. The more comments posted by people like you who care about the wellbeing of low-income people, the better our chances of changing or stopping the rule altogether.
When the Administration has posted the proposed rule, we’ll provide instructions on how to submit comments opposing it.
