In a statewide poll commissioned by the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center, results show that a lack of state funding for public education is at odds with the priorities of Pennsylvanians of all political persuasions.
Specifically, 83% of respondents to the survey said “fully funding K-12 public schools” should be a priority for the state legislature, with 59% saying it should be a top priority. Ninety-three percent self-identified liberals cited “fully funding K-12 public schools” as a priority, along with 91% of self-identified moderates and a strong majority of self-identified conservatives (66%). In a separate question, only 12% of respondents said state government is spending too much on K-12 public education.

The survey of 1,150 registered voters in Pennsylvania was conducted by TargetSmart. The margin of error of the statewide sample was +/- 4%. The survey oversampled two geographic areas in Western PA and Southeast PA*. The poll was carried out on behalf of We the People, a new issue advocacy campaign in support of Pennsylvania’s working families and communities, to be launched in mid-May along with full poll results.
