From the team at We Choose Welcome: (https://www.wechoosewelcome.com/)
Sunday is Mother’s Day, a time to honor all who have served as mothers to us, whether by birth or other connection. Here is a poem for the mothers and mother figures who are impacted by war, famine, and other acts of violence that have brought about separation, grief, and impossible choices. Our hearts are with you this weekend and always.
This is our prayer and hope for each of them.
Our God Who Sees Us
You saw Rahab
driven into the wilderness
desperate to save her son.
You met her there with comfort.
You see the mother
bravely protecting her babies
determined to bring them to safety.
Be the strong defense she needs.
You see the aunt
caring for another’s child
as her very own.
Carry her burdens.
You see the grandmother
fiercely loving her family
from half a world away.
Be near to her.
You see beautiful communities of women
carrying each other
with words of strength and hope.
Gather them under your wings.
We are your daughters.
Provide for us
as we entrust each other to you.
Be our refuge.
You didn’t let go of us then and you won’t let go of us now.
