From Public Citizens for Children and Youth (http://www.pccy.org):
If children were active in the political process right now, they might be saying things like:
Dear President Trump, if you have money to spend on school vouchers, can you make sure my school has enough teachers so I can learn more?
These days, adults may not agree on much, but we know raising children is job #1. The cuts proposed by the leadership in the U.S. House, Senate and White House fly in the face of our most basic obligation to the children in this nation.
Already the assault on health care puts more than a million children who live in our region at risk.
That’s the tip of the iceberg of harmful budget proposals that will do real harm to children. As the media covers the sensational stories, federal lawmakers have quietly been working on:
- Slashing federal funds that are used to educate the poorest children;
- Eliminating Head Start and robbing the future from 5,400 PA kids;
- Cutting nutrition programs that stem hunger for 700,000 children.
