Pennsylvania Will Have Secure Elections in 2020

From PA Voice (https://www.pennsylvaniavoice.org/):

Did you hear the news?

Pennsylvania is guaranteed secure elections in 2020.

After a tumultuous final few weeks of the fiscal year that ended June 30, when several voting reform measures and election security funding proposals faltered amid partisan bickering, Pennsylvania now has a plan to help counties update outdated, vulnerable voting machines.

Earlier this week, Gov. Tom Wolf announced a $90 million bond to help counties enhance election security, providing the financing they need to help them continue their transition to systems with voter-verifiable paper ballots that allows for audits.

It is well established by security experts on both sides of the aisle that Pennsylvania’s elections would have been the easiest target for foreign influence in 2020 unless the commonwealth made the switch. Pennsylvania is the only swing state yet to act.

But not anymore.

Roughly half of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties already have taken official action toward acquiring new voting systems, either through a vote to purchase or lease a system, or a vote to approve funding. This bond will ensure the work gets done across the state before 2020.

None of this would have happened without your intense, continued advocacy.

Of course, there is still work to do.

The state’s election code hasn’t been updated in more than 60 years.

With the funding issue resolved, is imperative for Pennsylvania to continue its momentum and stay on track with other bipartisan election reform proposals and continue full steam ahead to get that work done before the 2020 election as well.

With your help, we will continue our work to make voting more convenient, more secure and equally accessible for all who are eligible.
