The coronavirus outbreak is having direct and significant impacts on daily life in Pennsylvania. Today’s newsletter focuses on what governments and other institutions are doing to offset the disruption.
- School lunches: The Pa. Department of Education is tweeting out information on how individual school districts across the state are planning to distribute free breakfasts and lunches now that schools are closed for two weeks.
- The Philadelphia School District built an online map of meal distribution locations. The city also set up a 24-hour hotline where city residents can go with any coronavirus questions — 1-800-722-7112.

- The Pa. Department of Aging isn’t shutting down local senior centers but is urging local leaders to being planning now for how centers will provide meals and other essential services.

- U.S. Rep. Briant Fitzpatrick tweeted a link to the Small Business Administration’s disaster assistance program, which he said is “offering designated states and territories low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus #COVIDー19.”
There’s growing evidence from Europe and Asia that young adults sometimes get very sick from coronavirus. This suggests that young people need to take the outbreak seriously and do their part to embrace social distancing. Some links:

- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S. government’s top infectious disease scientist, warned today that young people will get sick. He also said he’d like to see stricter policies to reduce the spread of the virus, like closing restaurants, bars and other non-essential public spaces.
