From Children First (http://www.childrenfirstpa.org):
We know that every child, regardless of where they live, has a right to good education. A new ruling from the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court reinforces a reality that parents and students across Pennsylvania have been facing for decades – our legislators are not upholding their constitutional duty to ensure a thorough and efficient system of public education for ALL students.
The decision from the Commonwealth Court emphatically agrees with the plaintiffs’ argument that our system of funding public education in the Commonwealth is broken. This ruling is a repudiation of a bare-bones system of public education that opponents of this lawsuit defended in court during the trial.
It’s almost budget season in Harrisburg, and the court ruling makes it clear that now is the time to speak up at https://actionnetwork.org/letters/support-public-education-close-the-opportunity-gap-for-pa-students/ so legislators and our new governor know that funding our public schools is a top priority for their constituents.
As ordered by the court, the state legislature has no choice but to fix the state’s broken, unjust funding system. Research shows the state must add AT LEAST $4 billion in Basic Education Funding to close the adequacy gap.
Click here to send an email to Governor Shapiro and your state legislators to tell them that we owe it to our kids and our communities to continue to close the massive funding gap.
As part of Children First’s commitment to the PA Schools Work Campaign, we’ve partnered with them to make sending the email quick and easy.
