From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):
On Good Friday, Maribel Trujillo Diaz, a Catholic mom of four from Fairfield, Ohio, was sitting in a Louisiana detention center awaiting her deportation. Right now, thousands of immigrant mothers like Maribel are being torn away from their children.
Two weeks ago, immigration enforcement officials detained Maribel, a devoted Catholic lay leader, and plan to deport her next Wednesday. Although she has lived in the United States for the last 15 years, raised four U.S.-born children, including one with special needs, and maintains employment with a legal work permit, ICE has marked Maribel as a “priority” for removal.
Throughout Holy Week and Passover, Ohio faith leaders have rallied to stop the deportation and were able to slow down the process.
When mothers like Maribel Trujillo Diaz are hunted by immigration officials, communities are irreparably damaged. The family is a sacred institution that ought not be ruptured by senseless and immoral policies. Join us in calling on Secretary Kelly to show moral leadership and release Maribel back to her family in Ohio.
We will not stop until Maribel is free.
