From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):
Caribou in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge face a terrible threat. And Bernadette Demientieff, the Executive Director of the Gwich’in Nation, has left Alaska to visit Washington, DC, to advocate on behalf of the herd and her children.
Bernadette is speaking out against President Trump’s inclusion of Arctic Refuge drilling in the federal budget. With many caribou herds shrinking, drilling where the Porcupine Caribou Herd raises its young could threaten its survival.
Will you stand with Bernadette, with the Gwich’in people, and with the Porcupine Caribou Herd by asking your representative to oppose Arctic Refuge drilling? Make a call today at http://act.alaskawild.org/call/callin_houserefuge/.
Caribou are shy herbivores, sometimes hesitant even to cross the shadow of a pipeline. They need the Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge to birth and nourish their young in safety before beginning one of the longest land migrations on the planet.
Introducing oil drilling into their sanctuary will threaten the caribou’s survival, and in turn, the survival of the Gwich’in.
It is important for people in Washington, DC to know that most Americans oppose drilling in the Arctic Refuge. We need you to speak up so that the people Bernadette meets know that she speaks alongside many others.
