From the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (http://www.paimmigrant.org):
PICC, our members, partners, and groups across Pennsylvania invite you to celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month! This important recognition is relatively new, but has already helped to create dialogue and inspirational public events across the country. It has also been an important platform to highlight initiatives such as naturalization promotion (in 2015, the White House recognized Pittsburgh for hosting inclusive citizenship ceremonies in public spaces) and tying the month’s theme into the international World Refugee Day.
There will be several opportunities to celebrate this month. Here are a few; please share with us if you have more you would like to have included on our events page!
Philadelphia Immigrant Heritage Month: There are events almost every day – from movie screenings, to poetry readings, to World Refugee Day. Check out the full calendar!
Pittsburgh World Refugee Day is on Wednesday the 20th from 11am-2pm in Market Square. RSVP on the Facebook page!
Share your story! Join local & national campaigns that are highlighting individual stories of immigrants or why allies support their immigrant friends, family and neighbors. Use the hashtags #PALovesImmigrants and #IStandWithImmigrants to join the conversation, or contribute to the #IStandWithPhillyImmigrants campaign or the national #CelebrateImmigrants via www.IAmAnImmigrant.com.
