From Moms Rising (https://www.momsrising.org/):
Greetings from the MomsRising Pennsylvania team! We hope you had time for some quality relaxation over the holiday season.
We’ll be honest: so far, 2022 is feeling rough. But we’re writing with a hopeful offer: Join us to deepen your ability to organize, advocate, and make change happen this year. We’ve got two great training opportunities launching next month: the Parent Power Fellowship in Allegheny County, and the Beacons of Hope Community Leaders Program statewide.
We would love for you to join us. Building our collective power is the long-term strategy for building the communities, economy, and country we believe in.
Please read on, sign up if you’re able, and share this with family and friends.
A helpful note: Both programs offer leadership training, community, and support for your change making. The Parent Power Fellowship is only open to people living in Allegheny County, and is a 4-5 hour/month commitment. The Beacons of Hope program is open to anyone in Pennsylvania, and is closer to a 2 hour/month commitment. Yes, you can apply to both if you’re not sure which is the better fit! OR email me at Karen@MomsRising.org to discuss.
Parent Power Fellowship: Allegheny County
We’re looking for a team of passionate parents and caregivers eager to make sure our leaders hear the voices of Allegheny County families loud and clear. Join MomsRising for a special fellowship program that will give parents, family members, caregivers, and neighbors like YOU the knowledge, the skills, and the support to make sure our voices are heard around issues affecting our communities.
Fellows will meet virtually (with some fun in-person moments when it’s safe!) to share our experiences, build skills, and launch strategic actions in our communities. Workshop topics will include:
- A deep dive into issues like early learning, maternal justice, and related economic justice issues;
- Tips for engaging friends and neighbors around issues you care about;
- Strategies for crafting fun and impactful events that get noticed;
- Exploring your position and power within the movement, and how to center equity in your work;
- Understanding how policies and budgets pass at the federal and state levels.
This is a doable experience that will fit into your busy schedule. Fellows will participate in monthly meetings and coaching calls, plan impactful community events, meet with local leaders, and more. The commitment is about 4 hours/month for 10 months starting this spring, and there’s a $750 volunteer stipend, too. We’ll meet online and in person (when we can). You’ll leave feeling more comfortable and confident speaking out about issues you care about, and with a strong community of fellows beside you. Click here to get more information and to apply!
Beacons of Hope Community Leaders Program

Examples include: holding postcard writing parties, organizing constituent meetings with the local offices of members of Congress, tabling at a farmer’s market, and more. Again, we’ll back you up.
participate in orientation and monthly meetings.
receive a small advance volunteer reimbursement stipend, as well as an advocacy toolkit with useful and fun items to help them build their Hubs, build the MomsRising movement, and build the grassroots power of moms and families.
