Will you join me in changing the direction of the political discussion in our country?
The future of our democracy depends on our ability to address the level of anger and fear that is rampant across the country. Please join with Rev. Dr. William Barber, Rev. Dr. James Forbes, and Rev. Dr. Traci Blackmon to advance the “Higher Ground Moral Declaration” during The Revival: Time for a Moral Revolution of Values national tour that is traveling through 19 states in 2016.
What we’re hearing from people across the country, like Dorothy Adams, is a hunger for a moral politics and economy that prioritizes the common good. This includes access to health care, living wages, and addressing injustice and systemic racism in our country. This declaration is critical. Now is the time for us to stand up and take action.
We must step beyond the anger and fear that is tearing apart the fabric of our society. We need to come together to save our democracy from the extremists that are driving us apart. Faith calls us into community where everyone has a place at the table. The declaration is how we the people, can hold our candidates and elected officials accountable to the common good.
Pope Francis says that “Today, we have to realize that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.”
I hear the cry of the earth and the cry of our people and I cannot stand idly by. Won’t you join me by adding your name to the “Higher Ground Moral Declaration” at https://action.groundswell-mvmt.org/petitions/will-you-advance-a-moral-agenda, an action that will help change the discourse of our nation? I do this because of the faith challenge, but I know that where we meet in our diverse nation is in the Constitution. So even if you don’t share my faith, won’t you join me in our Constitutional mandate to be “We the People…forming a more perfect union.”
