From the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (http://www.interfaithimmigration.org):
Immigration raids are happening under the Trump Administration.
As faith allies, we are called to be in solidarity through rapid response mobilization stop these raids, stop these deportations and support impacted communities. In the face of President Trump’s extremist anti-immigrant agenda we must respond with a prophetic and bold voice.
On January 25th, the President signed an Executive Order https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/01/25/presidential-executive-order-enhancing-public-safety-interior-united on immigration enforcement, which is designed to increase mass deportations through small and large scale raids. We’re already seeing the impact of these policies as we are hearing of Immigration doing small home raids or sweeps in places like Dodge City, Kansas, Charlotte, North Carolina and even Los Angeles County.
The harsh implementation of Trump’s policies were seen in Phoenix http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/immigration/2017/02/08/could-woman-first-arizonan-deported-because-trump-orders/97637928/ when Guadalupe, a mother of 2 U.S. citizen children, was detained and later deported after showing up for her regular check in at the local Immigration Customs Office. Protesters soon arrived and some even blocked the van in a show of prophetic civil disobedience. Tweet Phoenix Mayor @mayorstanton and tell him to stop Phoenix Police collusion with ICE.
More people must respond to these unjust actions through community mobilization and support, just as they did in Phoenix! We’ve created a toolkit to guide faith leaders and allies on the steps to take to prepare to bring Sanctuary to the Streets in the coming days.
Download the toolkit here (http://www.sanctuarynotdeportation.org/) and prepare to be a witness in solidarity with your immigrant brothers and sisters.
We will remain vigilant of the administration to monitor enforcement activity around the country. Rapid response is not just about trying to stop a raid, it’s also about mobilizing and organizing people to help with the fall out of a raid, when families are being separated, bills can’t be paid, and emotional support is needed. Be ready to show up and do a vigil at the ICE field office, detention center, or jails where people will be held.
As you prepare, don’t forget to spread the word by sharing the graphic below with your friends and other people of faith that highlights the four things they can do now to prepare.
