From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):
On Wednesday, the Senate voted to allow the state of Alaska to target wolves and bears through extreme methods including killing mother bears with cubs and wolves with pups in their dens, baiting, and using airplanes to scout and shoot bears.
Your calls helped keep this vote close, but this is proof we have more work to do.
We don’t have many truly wild places left, and this vote does more than foreshadow a brutal future for animals on national refuges in Alaska. It makes us fear for one of the biggest and wildest of all: the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Legislation has already been introduced (S.49, the Alaska Oil and Gas Production Act) that would open it to drilling.
To make sure your elected officials stand up for the Arctic Refuge and our wild lands and waters in Alaska, check out this Town Hall calendar at https://townhallproject.com/ and find out when they’ll be visiting next. You can reference this vote and express your outrage at the direction this Congress is heading. Ask that they protect our wildlife refuges – including the Arctic Refuge – from oil development.
