Global Food Security Reauthorization Act Signed, Good Till 2023

From Oxfam America (http://www.oxfamamerica.org):

We have reason to celebrate!

On October 11, 2018, President Trump signed the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act into law. This ensures the continuation of the important work of Feed the Future, a program that Sisters have lobbied for since 2010.

Feed the Future started in 2009. The program contributes to food security through partnerships in target countries by improving farm productivity, boosting climate adaptation, connecting farmers abroad to American experts, creating opportunities for women, and more. Feed the Future estimates 5.2 million families no longer suffer from hunger because of its work.

While advocating for ongoing Feed the Future funding since 2010, Sisters also asked Congress to make the program permanent law by passing the Global Food Security Act. Thanks to persistence from advocates like you, it finally passed in 2016. President Trump’s reauthorization ensures Feed the Future will continue for at least five more years.

The Global Food Security Act is an excellent example of bipartisan legislation that is about spending smarter, not spending more. Because it specifically calls for additional opportunities for women, Sisters and the Female Food Heroes visiting from countries such as Nigeria were natural champions for the bill.

You can be proud of your contribution, especially knowing that Feed the Future and the Global Food Security Act will continue until 2023.
