From the Detention Watch Network (https://www.detentionwatchnetwork.org/):
Today we are on our fourth day of Detention Watch Network’s #FreeThemAll National Week of Digital Action, March 30 – April 4, to demand the liberation of all people in immigration detention – Let’s keep the pressure going! Today we are focusing our attention on local jails and the movement to end mass incarceration and decarcerate as many people as possible.
Day 4 – Thursday, April 2: La policia, la migra, la misma porqueria: Decarcerate local jails
The United States is grossly obsessed with incarceration. Whether called “detention center,” “facility,” “jail,” or “prison,” these systems share the same unjust design: to incarcerate Black and brown people and strip them of their dignity. Show your solidarity with the movement to end mass incarceration by supporting calls for the decarceration of county and city jails. People incarcerated in jails across the country are some of the most vulnerable populations during the pandemic. Our incarcerated loved ones are restricted in their ability to avoid exposure to COVID-19 and fight the spread of infectious disease. Close confinement, limited testing and a lack of access to hygiene products create conditions for deadly and dangerous outbreaks. Let’s call on local officials including sheriffs, district attorneys, and judges to #FreeThemAll.
Overview of today’s day of action and how you can support:
