Tell EPA to Finalize Worst Case Discharge Rule to Protect Water from Toxic Chemical Spills—by July 26

From Clean Water Action (http://www.cleanwateraction.org/):

Summer is right around the corner! With warm days and summer vacations also comes increased weather events. Storms like hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods can harm your drinking water. When chemical storage tanks spill due to weather events, we currently have no plan in place to stop or respond to such spills.

Tell EPA at https://cleanwater.salsalabs.org/no-toxic-spills-2022/index.html to protect communities and drinking water from chemical spills: Contact EPA today to tell them to finalize the Worst Case Discharge Rule with the strongest possible requirements.

Chemical storage tanks can be a disaster waiting to happen if we don’t prepare properly. Even in 1990 Congress knew this and directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to require facilities to make a plan to avoid chemical spills that can pollute our waterways. Unfortunately, over 3 decades later, these requirements haven’t been implemented! If such plans had been in place, disasters such as the 350 chemicals that were spilled during Hurricane Harvey could have been prevented.

The Worst Case Discharge Rule will finally require facilities holding large quantities of toxic chemicals to create plans in case of extreme weather events. This will safeguard our communities and drinking water from potential disaster – helping protect frontline communities that are often downstream of toxic chemical storage facilities.

We have until July 26th to tell EPA to create the strongest toxic chemical spills protections possible.
