From Education Voters of Pennsylvania (http://www.educationvoterspa.org/):
We are excited to share with you our brand new Education Voters of PA issues and advocacy training series! The modules in our series will give parents and advocates an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of education policy and advocacy issues and gain skills and confidence in your work supporting public education.
Access the training portal here and the first course here! You can complete all of the courses or pick the ones that most interest you. You will need to register and you will need a Google account to access the classroom.
The modules focus on a range of specific topics.
Interested in going to a school board meeting for the first time, but you are not sure what to expect? We have you covered!
Not sure how PA’s school funding works and why property taxes keep going up? That is in our School Funding 101 course.
Want to learn more about state basic and special education funding? We have courses on those topics!
And, have you always wanted to learn more about Pennsylvania’s EITC/OSTC school voucher programs but can’t find the information? Check out our module and resources for everything you want and need to know.
We have additional modules on the way about school funding equity, charter school funding, and higher education.
Each module is based on current research, reports and data and consists of a video, handouts, activities, resources, and a mini quiz to check for understanding and certify your completion of the course. Most should take less than ½ hour to complete and you can work at your own pace.
Once you have completed the set of courses within each module, Ed Voters will send you a certificate. If you complete all of the modules, we will mail you a gift!
We hope that these will provide you with additional knowledge and tools to use in your work supporting and defending our children’s public schools in Pennsylvania.
We are very excited about this project and welcome your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to us at training@educationvoterspa.org with any questions, suggestions or concerns.
