Tell DEP: Don’t Renew Construction Permits for Mariner East—by January 25

From Clean Water Action (http://www.cleanwateraction.org/):

Construction permits are about to expire on the disastrous Mariner East pipelines, and we have until January 25, 2022 to tell the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) NOT to renew them.

Since construction began five years ago, Sunoco/Energy Transfer (ET) has demonstrated time and again its willful disregard for the laws and regulations of the Commonwealth. Sunoco/ET has illegally spilled drilling fluids at least 330 times, caused dozens of sinkholes across the state, and contaminated both public and private drinking water supplies. It has also failed to report many of these violations, in further violation of its permits. Despite at least 127 notices of violation issued by the DEP, 48 criminal charges filed against ET by the Attorney General’s office, and ongoing issues such as the contamination of Marsh Creek Lake and the drinking water supplies across the state, DEP is proposing to renew Sunoco/ET’s Chapter 102 earthmoving permits. The new permit applications lack sufficient detail to demonstrate how Sunoco/ET will adequately protect the environment and water resources going forward.

Act now at https://cleanaircouncil.salsalabs.org/marinereast/index.html to tell the DEP you object to any renewed construction permits for Mariner East!

In your comment, be sure to describe any issues you have experienced on your property and/or in your community, and demand that a public hearing be held to allow residents to provide their input on the renewal application. Tell the DEP that Sunoco/ET’s permit renewal should not be granted while so many outstanding issues remain.
