From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):
In five months, we are going to hold one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history. But we are facing a huge problem: new voters are having trouble adding their name to the voter rolls as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
How can people vote if they can’t even register to vote?
Add your name at https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/demand-online-voter-registration-nationwide! Join CHN and our coalition of national leaders to demand online voter registration nationwide!
To protect public health during the pandemic, many voter registration facilities, including DMVs and town clerks’ offices, have been closed. Canvassing efforts on college campuses, neighborhoods and on city streets have been completely shut down, as well. As a result, large swaths of new voters have not been able to register to vote and may be excluded from voting during November’s presidential election.
The solution: Online voter registration.
Online voter registration is a secure way to modernize our voter registration systems. By letting eligible Americans register to vote from home, citizens can get on the voter rolls and make themselves heard in our democracy—despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus.
Now, more than ever, we need to make sure the voices of more Americans are included in our democracy. The more people that vote in our elections, the stronger our voice will be to fight for struggling families, the poor, and vulnerable people throughout our country.
There is no time to waste. If we want to have online registration as an option before November’s critical election, we must get states to act now!
