From the Every Child Matters Education Fund (http://www.everychildmatters.org/):
I know we have one thing in common: we both want children to be a priority when it comes to federal, state, and local policies. Unfortunately, some recent Trump administration actions don’t uphold that shared value.

President Trump’s tax cut proposal, announced last week, will hurt kids–especially those who rely on Medicaid and anti-poverty safety-net programs–according to a new report from the non-partisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Yesterday the House of Representatives took its first steps to realize the President’s tax agenda, passing a budget resolution that also outlines major cuts to children’s programs.
Meanwhile, the administration has faced criticism from advocates for its slow response to the disaster in Puerto Rico, and Congress failed to extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) before funding expired on September 30.
The tax cuts proposed by President Trump would mostly benefit wealthy individuals and profitable corporations. In order to offset the costs of the proposal, according to CBPP, Congress could target programs like Medicaid that currently meet the needs children and working families. In fact, one of the reasons for the delay of CHIP reauthorization is that House leadership has attempted to attach Medicaid cuts to the bill.
Medicaid and CHIP currently provide healthcare for more than a third of all U.S. children. Do we really want tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations to be paid for by our children and working families?
We need to send a clear message to the Trump administration: put children and families first. Our leaders should be focusing their time and resources on recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas. They should be ensuring that federal dollars continue flowing to CHIP, so children can receive the health care they need. They absolutely should *not* be stripping safety-net programs in order to fund tax giveaways to corporations and wealthy individuals.
Tell the Trump administration: Put children and families first.
