With deadline for the 2017-18 budget just one day away, we are convening another call-in action, encouraging people from across PA to make phone calls to their legislators’ Capitol offices from 11AM to 1PM (find talking points and link to find legislators’ phone numbers at http://pachoice.org/call-your-legislator/) to insist on a budget that raises the revenue to make necessary investments in critical services. An updated sample email is included below that you can adapt & send to your lists. The sample email includes a link to an action page on the PA’s Choice website that will give people a quick background about what’s at stake in the state budget, a tool to find their legislators & their office phone numbers, and some short talking points to inform their conversations with office staff. Additionally, there are 2 social-media-friendly memes attached to this email for use in promoting the action on Facebook & Twitter.
SAMPLE EMAIL:
Dear [NAME],
By the end of the day tomorrow – Friday, June 30th – our state legislature is required to have a balanced 2017-18 budget enacted for the start of the fiscal year at midnight on Saturday. Your state senator and representative are under pressure to accept cuts to education, environmental protection, and essential services to our most vulnerable neighbors and family members.
At this critical time, we need to make sure they hear from us. And the PA’s Choice campaign and [NAME OF ORGANIZATION] have an easy and quick way for you to do it.
TODAY – Thursday, June 29th – take action with people across the state between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm by calling your state senator and representative and telling them to only support a budget that raises the revenue needed to make critical investments in Pennsylvania’s future! West Chester Budget Vigil: TODAY (Thurs, 6/29) – 6PM
There will be a budget vigil TONIGHT (Thurs 6/19) at 6:00 pm at the Historic Chester County Courthouse, located at 2 North High Street in West Chester. Speakers at tonight’s event will be Marc Stier of PBPC, Jennifer Wolff of Mental Health Partnerships, and local residents including Beth Brindle, Blake Emmanuel, Dr. Kevin Moore. All PA’s Choice supporters and allies are invited to participate, and there is a particular need for turnout assistance, as well as securing additional local speakers.
