Call NOW to Stop Legislative Reapportionment Bill to Give Redistricting to Majority Party in PA General Assembly

Thanks to UU Justice PA (https://uujusticepa.org/):

House Bill 2207, being fast-tracked through the state legislature, possibly by WEDNESDAY (NOTE: Introduced on 1/4/22), would ultimately give the majority party in each chamber of the legislature the power to draw legislative and congressional districts — thereby letting the politicians pick their voters instead of the other way around.

As described by our friends at Fair Districts PA, the bill proposes an amendment to the state Constitution to create a “Citizens’ Legislative Reapportionment Commission” that would NOT be impartial and independent. The bill cannot be vetoed by the governor, because it seeks a constitutional amendment.

Fair Districts notes that there have been no public hearings and no opportunity for public input on the measure. Let’s tell our lawmakers that if it’s not impartial and not independent, we don’t want it!

My name is [give your full name]. I live in [name of city/town/boro]. I am calling to ask Rep.[last name] to oppose HB 2207. I do not support it. This bill was introduced on Jan 4 and had no public hearings or input. It creates a politically-appointed, partisan redistricting commission. It does nothing to increase transparency or define criteria in map drawing. I want an impartial independent citizens redistricting commission with strict transparency and map drawing criteria. HB 2207 is not the solution. I urge you to VOTE NO on HB 2207.
