Call on Congress to Extend the Electric Vehicle Tax Credit

From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):

The midterm elections may be over, but this Congress isn’t finished yet, and the future of electric vehicles (EV) in this country could be decided in its final days.

We all deserve the benefits of cleaner cars. Call 833-216-1727 now and tell our senators to keep EVs affordable and extend the federal EV tax credit. After you dial the number, you’ll hear a message from UCS with short talking points, and then be connected to your senator’s office. We’ve also included some sample talking points below.

It’s no surprise that one in five Americans surveyed by American Automobile Association say they will likely choose an electric car for their next vehicle purchase. Switching to an EV will, on average, cut global warming emissions in half over the lifetime of the vehicle. It also reduces toxic air pollution and saves drivers money on fuel and maintenance. Not to mention they’re just plain fun to drive. Unfortunately, one of the largest barriers is the up-front cost, so incentives to make EVs more affordable are critical for more drivers to make the switch.

The oil industry is already hard at work—not only are they trying to stop the Electric CARS Act, they are also trying to end the EV tax credit program for good. We have to show as much public support as possible to drown out these industry lobbyists.

The EV industry needs our help—Call 833-216-1727 and urge our senators to support the Electric CARS Act and the EV tax credit program.

The US EV market is growing quickly, but this technology is still young, and, for now, EVs can be more expensive than gas-powered cars. That’s why we have federal EV tax credits, so consumers can make a smart, clean choice at an affordable price.

EVs won’t need a tax credit forever, as EV manufacturing costs are rapidly falling, but we should make sure that the incentive is available for all EVs, regardless of manufacturer. That’s why Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon introduced a bill to extend these credits for ten years, allowing the EV market to mature and manufacturers to compete on a level playing field.

The oil industry is already trying to get your senator to vote their way, it’s time for your senator to listen to constituents like you. Call our senators now at 833-216-1727. And make sure you let us know how it went.
