America Goes to the Polls 2016

From Nonprofit Vote (http://www.nonprofitvote.org/):

On Tuesday, March 14th, Nonprofit VOTE and the U.S. Elections Project will release America Goes to the Polls 2016: Voter Turnout in the 2016 Presidential Election. This will be the sixth release in our biennial series of reports of voter turnout in presidential and midterm elections.

The report examines voter turnout nationally and in the states. It is the only report on voter turnout that ranks the states by turnout using data provided by the U.S. Elections Project on total ballots cast and voting eligible population. The report also look at factors that affect voter turnout – most importantly the effects of Same Day Voter Registration (SDR) and “battleground” state status. Previously unreported data also highlights the historically low levels of competition in House races in 2016. In addition, we provide brief commentary on turnout among young voters, Latinos and Asian Americans in 2016 with an emphasis on factors that act to depress turnout among these groups. Finally, the report suggest several election reforms that research indicates may help increase participation.

Stay tuned for more next week.
