New Administration Takes Historic Step to Strengthen Refugee Program

From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):

On Thursday, February 4th, the administration took an historic step to improve and strengthen the U.S. resettlement program and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program by signing “Executive Order on Rebuilding and Enhancing Programs to Resettle Refugees and Planning for the Impact of Climate Change on Migration.”

The entire refugee community welcomes and celebrates this executive order’s arrival, which has a refugee admissions goal of 125,000 this year—up from a low of 18,000 last year. This executive action will improve the resettlement program’s efficiency and equitable treatment of refugees, strengthen access to the program for the most vulnerable refugees, and it rescinds harmful anti-refugee executive orders (EO 13888 and EO 13815).
