From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):
Recently leaders of the world’s 20 major economies (19 countries plus the EU) met in Hamburg, Germany. Soon it became clear that Trump’s reckless and unconscionable move to abandon the Paris Climate Accord has left our country isolated. Other nations re-affirmed their support, stating that the Accord is “irreversible” and agreeing to a detailed policy blueprint to move forward with their climate goals. The G20 then adopted a Climate and Energy Action Plan, with the Trump team insisting on pro-fossil fuel language.
Trump’s action is counter to the wishes of 70% of Americans who support the Paris climate agreement. The good news is that, in spite of the federal government’s stance, cities, states, and non-governmental entities are stepping up to commit to reducing their carbon emissions.
You can join them by committing to reduce your carbon emissions. Go to http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/50836/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=21845 to add your name to IPL’s Paris: We’re Still In petition.
Dozens of city mayors from around the world—including Washington, Berlin, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney—called on G20 leaders to stick to their commitments on tackling climate change. Eleven U.S. cities are signatories. The mayors promised to redouble their own commitments to bold action on climate. “We must all work together to save the planet.” The alliance, led by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, said they were inspired by the “courage” shown by the more than 300 mayors in cities across the U.S. who have committed to upholding the Paris Agreement despite Trump’s decision.
The thing about climate change is that it is a problem so big that it needs everyone, everywhere to participate in solving it.
Once you sign, you will be part of a growing movement that is beginning to transform American life and our relationship with the Earth. We will send you resources and information to help you act, green your residence or facilities, and move to clean energy. By working cooperatively, in good faith, we can create a better future, a safe climate, and a healthy planet.
Let’s show the world that regardless of what the Trump administration does or doesn’t do, global warming is a moral issue we are compelled to address. We’re still committed, we’re keeping the faith, and we’re still in!
