From CeaseFirePA (http://www.ceasefirepa.org):
Earlier this week, in 24 hours, thousands of Pennsylvanians told the PA Senate guns don’t belong in classrooms. And then, Sen. Mastriano’s arming teachers bill was pulled from the Education Committee schedule.
This is the power we have when you speak out. The power we have when we join with teachers, students, and survivors. It’s the power we have together.
But, with the Senate convening this October, we’re worried. The gun extremists who believe more guns make us safer want to arm teachers over the objections of teachers. And this is the kind of October surprise we do not need. [1]
Please add your voice to the call “Guns don’t belong in classrooms” at https://act.ceasefirepa.org/a/do-not-arm-pennsylvania-teachers.
In the last few days, we’ve heard from teachers and parents. And each time they tell us they want the classroom to be about learning. And while they are worried about another mass shooting, arming teachers will do nothing to prevent it. And they know it.
In fact, it could increase the risk. The vast majority of school shooters are associated with the school and often get the firearm from someone they know. And, with increasing anxiety among youth many are concerned the presences of a gun will increase the risk of firearm suicide.
