From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):

A new proposal from the Trump administration would fundamentally change how the federal government implements our nation’s bedrock environmental law—the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, which is crucial to protecting public health and well-being.

The proposal claims to “streamline and clarify” the NEPA process, but in fact it is a blatant effort to institutionalize climate denial into government decisionmaking by blocking comprehensive analysis of not only the impacts of federal projects on climate change, but also the impacts of climate change on federal projects.

We only have 60 days to comment on this disastrous proposal—act now to protect our nation’s bedrock environmental law at https://secure.ucsusa.org/onlineactions/5J0luZa4YkiUmcMR656c9g2.

As Interior Secretary David Bernhardt boasted, “The proposal affects virtually every significant decision by the federal government that affects the environment.”

The new rules would also rush the whole process of developing environmental impact assessments, with devastating effects on communities. Dr. Mildred McClain, cofounder of Harambee House and Citizens for Environmental Justice, points out: “NEPA is the law used to ensure that residents who would be impacted by ANY type of project, clean up, development—anything that could affect them—have a voice and are front and center in any decisionmaking activity.”

Act now to protect NEPA—the public comment period closes on Tuesday, March 10.
