It’s Not Over—Act Now for Redistricting Reform

From Fair Districts PA (http://www.fairdistrictspa.com):

It’s not over until it’s over!

The PA House and Senate seemed to recess weeks ago but have since been adding session days and committee meetings to push a mix of bills.

This week they’ll be voting on several constitutional amendments, which opens the window to adding our bills as amendments to those amendments. When PA constitutional amendments go to public referendum, they’re divided into separate questions, so even if we don’t agree with the content of the initial amendments, it’s a way to move closer to a vote by PA voters on an independent redistricting commission.

Sound confusing? Of course it is. But it’s also a chance to hold legislators accountable.

We’d like your help for this last push.

Take a few minutes to make four calls NOW!

  1. Call your PA representative and say “Please vote in support of an amendment to Senate Bill 1166 to create an independent redistricting commission for legislative and congressional districts.” Find your representative and phone number here.
  2. Call Speaker Bryan Cutler and say “Please make sure ALL amendments to SB 1166 are given a vote. In particular, please make sure amendments to create an independent redistricting commission are allowed debate and vote.” Here’s the number: (717) 783-6424.
  3. Call Senate State Government Committee Chair John DiSanto and ask him to amend HB 196 to include an independent redistricting commission for legislative and congressional districts, Here’s the number: 717) 787-6801.
  4. Call your PA senator and say “Please vote in support of an amendment to House Bill 196 to create an independent redistricting commission for legislative and congressional districts.” Find your senator and phone number here.

Remember to state your name, where you live, and express your support for an independent redistricting process for both state legislative and congressional districts. This is the last chance before 2021 to get this right. Maps drawn next year will decide our elections for the next decade.
