Natural gas in the Marcellus Shale is a potential source of revenue, jobs, and energy for Pennsylvania. However, the environmental risks are very high if proper regulations and protections are not in place. DEP Secretary John Hanger says, “A natural gas drilling boon will inevitably result in some environmental damage including possible water contamination.”
