4th Annual Commonwealth Interfaith Service: Prayers for Justice and Peace—April 30, Harrisburg

Please join your sisters and brothers in faith in a celebration of our diverse faith and prayer traditions in central Pennsylvania and to pray for justice and peace at the 4th Annual Commonwealth Interfaith Service: Prayers for Justice and Peace on Monday, April 30, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 N. 3rd Street, Harrisburg, PA (across the street from the Capitol—directions at http://www.mapquest.com/maps?cat=Pine+Street+Presbyterian+Church&address=310+N+3rd+St&city=Harrisburg&state=PA&zipcode=17101; click on “Get Directions”).

This service is being held in observance of the National Day of Prayer, which is always the first week of May. It will be a celebration of the religious diversity of our state and our nation, as well as the diversity of ways to pray.

If your group or community would like to be included as a co-sponsor of this event, please contact s.strauss@pachurches.org.

If you cannot make it to Harrisburg for the service, please consider organizing an Interfaith Service of Prayers for Justice and Peace in your area. If you do, please let us know at s.strauss@pachurches.org.

Plans continue to evolve for this service. We already have representatives from many of the faith traditions represented in the Harrisburg region, and expect to be joined by others as well. The Rev. Dr. Russell Sullivan, Pastor at Pine Street, will provide a welcome to all who attend, and the congregation will host a reception following the service, offering food and drink from the traditions represented. A variety of music and dance will be offered during the service as well.

We come together in the belief that we share a common desire for a more peaceful and just world, and that we can be a powerful voice and presence for peace in our community, throughout the country, and in the world.
