Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio each have sponsored legislation in their respective chambers allowing states to create their own single payer systems, something not allowed under current law. Support for both bills is in line with single payer goals and could lead to a national single payer system if passed.
